Emma at One Month

Emma turned a month old on Sunday.

I can't believe she's already been with us for a month.

I can't believe it's been a month since I've slept for more than three hours together.

Size: Emma's already gained more than two pounds. She's been busily developing her cheeks and little legs. The extra pudge is pretty cute.

Personality: Emma's still a bit squishy, since she's still sleeping 15 plus hours a day, but she's already got quite a bit of personality.
She's pretty mellow most of the time, as long as she's full and rested. She's not shy about letting us know when she's hungry -- and she is not patient. She'll also eat just as much as she wants -- sometimes for 15 minutes, sometimes for 3. Good luck trying to get me to eat more when I don't feel like it.
I think this girl is going to take after me -- she seems to do much better when there is some structure and routine to her day. She doesn't mind going out, and she likes most people, but she'll punish us by yelling for hours when we're out for too long, or when her routine is broken.

Likes: Being held and cuddled, but not always held closely. She likes to be held at arm length, so she can look around.
The yoga ball. I sat on that thing almost exclusively for the last month of my pregnancy, and for Emma, it's like being home. She likes being bounced on that ball far more than she likes being rocked, walked, or swayed. It's how we get her to sleep every night.
Bathtime. Eric is awesome at bathing her -- he can do it in less than ten minutes. She really likes the water, and doesn't even cry when her head is washed.
Faces. Emma can still only see a couple of feet, so even though she's started to take notice of her surroundings, it's our faces that she mostly sees and focuses on.
Sleeping on Mom.
Eric's face. Especially his beard.

Dislikes: Not being bounced.
Not being held.
Not being able to fall asleep.
Realizing she's been sleeping somewhere other than on Mom.
Being restrained, especially:
Being swaddled. It becomes a challenge to free her arms and legs.

Earlier today, Emma didn't want her one-month pictures taken.

So we took a nap instead, then came back later.

With a prop.

Onto which Emma promptly fell over.

But didn't seem to mind.

Does this thing have boob? Where are the milks?

So we resettled ourselves.

Look! Feet!

Look! Hands!

Staying upright didn't last very long.

 Hi, Bear.

I said, Hiiiii, Bear.
