Still pregnant over here. Not for much longer, let's hope. Yesterday, the doctor again pointed out how low Tiny is. I was like, um, yeah, sometimes I think this baby's trying to climb into my legs. He tried to encourage me by pointing out that I have "a very adequate pelvis." Um, thanks? Just sufficiently adequate would actually be enough for me.
But even if Tiny's not quite ready, we are -- and so is the nursery! The little room finally graduated to nursery status, after so long as a closet.
That's after we cleared out all the closet-y things. You can see more before pictures of the nursery here.
And now, the After.
Tiny's room, just to recap, used to be a storage closet off of our bedroom -- the door is about two feet away from my side of the bed, conveniently.
Here's the view looking in from our bedroom:
It's a funny-shaped little room, being a closet and all. Almost an L shape.
Just inside the door:
And there is, in fact a door on the other side of the room as well. That door opens out onto our porch. We have a very strange floorplan, built entirely around our huge porch. It's kind of awesome, actually. (I'll give a tour of our apartment, one of these days.)
We lucked out on our lighting situation. Instead of those gross, four-foot long florescent bulbs, we bought two chinese lanterns (blue and green) on amazon for about two dollars each.
Here's the view from the other side of the room, just in front of the door leading to the porch. I took the photos just before twilight, so the light is a little funny. There's a bunch of natural light during the day, which makes the room feel airy and bigger.
Forgive the cord. Being a closet, and one with a door onto the porch, the room is barely insulated. We have a space heater in there to maintain the temperature, so it's not 40 degrees at night. The only outlet is on the ceiling, so the cord has to hang. Not super attractive.
The shelves look cute, though. Note especially the baby sperry topsiders. I made the buntings (there's another one above the crib) using felt and ribbon.
I'm pretty proud of the curtains. They were something of an ordeal. We don't have a sewing machine, or even so much as a yardstick to help me cut in a straight line. I hemmed them using the miracle iron-on tape stuff, then stitched the top by hand. They're backed with black-out fabric, so all that natural light doesn't keep Tiny awake during naps.
Here are the shelves above the crib, to its left. The empty frame was a super cool gift we received -- there's a spot for a photo from each of the first twelve months of Tiny's life.
On the walls are some favorite poems, quotes, hymns, etc. I picked them out, Eric printed them on nice paper, and I framed them with the leftover felt from the buntings.
Above the crib are excerpts from the Prayer Book -- a selection from the morning prayer:
O Lord, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend us in the same with thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings, being ordered by thy governance, may be righteous in thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
And a selection from the evening prayer:
Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee, O Lord; and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only son, our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Amen.
And remember these guys? Well, the mobile is done! The elephants are really quite cute. I love how they're angled downward, looking towards Tiny.
And what I consider the highlight of the room, Tiny's quilt. Eric's mom makes amazing quilts. We have four or five others around the house. This one, she made just for Tiny. Without it, Tiny would hardly be a Coykendall.
(It's much bigger than you see in the photo here; this is about a quarter of it, as it hangs over the side of the crib.)
Tiny, we're ready when you are!
Adorable!
